National Telecommunication Institute was established in 1981 under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Technology (MPTT). It used to offer a three and half year diploma course consisting of two years of basic studies, six months of language (English) studies and one year in a specialization with technical and equipment support assistance of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The Institute trained high-level telecommunication technicians for all ministries.
Due to the new developments in the nation’s ICT sector and the necessity for the development of a capacity building strategy for the government institutions to enhance service delivery and improve transparency. The ministry has re-launched NTI with a broader vision to adapt to the currently developments in ICTs.
